Doha Quest is Qatar’s largest indoor theme park, situated in the heart of the luxurious Doha Oasis complex in Msheireb. Spanning 32,000 square metres, it offers over 30 attractions, including the world’s tallest indoor rollercoasters and free-fall towers.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Given their considerable size and the noisy attractions they house, amusement parks are among the most challenging environments to treat acoustically. Without good acoustics, they risk becoming unpleasant places where it is difficult to enjoy spending time.
Mappy Italia was not stopped by these critical issues and, for one of the most important indoor amusement parks in the Middle East, created hexagonal and triangular ceiling sound-absorbing panels in various sizes – up to 7 metres in length in a single panel – into which perimeter lighting was incorporated, lending dynamism and vibrancy to the space. Alongside these panels, in another area of the park’s ceiling, Mappyfiber L Cloud acoustic islands were also installed, in customised sizes, inspired by the sky and its elements.
Mappy Italia also created the park’s starry sky using the new-generation fibre, black Mappyfiber in sheets, into which holes were cut to insert fibre-optic lighting. The points of light, contrasting with the black, evoke a clear, starry night.
The entire project was assessed and approved by external acoustic specialists, who confirmed that the recorded results comply with international standards and meet the requirements set by the design engineers.
THE RESULT: an amusement park designed with visitors’ well-being in mind, thanks to a detailed acoustic study that enabled the installation of high-performance sound-absorbing panels. The acoustic solutions adopted lend the environment a playful and striking aesthetic, making the space truly unique and further enhancing the overall experience.
